Ezekiel 38 יחזקאל and current events

This is not an attempt to to prophectic or even thoeological but simply to look into history and see what Y’chezkel or Ezekiel has to offer on current events.Everying thing will be on Ez-38 so I won’t mention Ezekiel 38 again just the verse number.Also these are just possible scenerio’s of what could be going on and not an attempt to prophecize.

1.And it came ,the word of the Lord,to me ,saying:

2.בֶּן־אָדָ֗ם שִׂ֚ים פָּנֶ֙יךָ֙ אֶל־גּוֹג֙ אֶ֣רֶץ הַמָּג֔וֹג נְשִׂ֕יא

רֹ֖אשׁ מֶ֣שֶׁךְ וְתֻבָ֑ל וְהִנָּבֵ֖א עָלָֽיו:

“Son of humankind, set your face toward Gog and the land of Magog and the Prince, head of Meshekh and Tuval and prophecy concerning them”

First question is who is Magog?By all known evidence they are Scythians(I believe pronounced sithians) were and eastern Iranian people who lived into Ukraine and Russia and inbetween .So if Russia and Iran join forces this will be Magog and Russia and Iran are allies politically but are not now functioning as some type of confederation.Speculation is just speculation but we know Iran and Russia help each other and we know Iran helps Hamas and things do get around,that is just speculation.

Who is Meshekh?With great likelihood the southern Caucasus like perhaps Georgia,Azerbaijan or states within Russia like Chechnya or Dagestan.In Georgia there is a region called Meskheti a mountainous region inhabited since maybe 2-4 thousand BCE (The time of Noah).We can’t say with certainty who are the descendants of the Meskhati but I would guess in that region of the Caucasus.It is also possible that Meshekh could relate to Moscow the Russian city ,here is a excerpt from wikpedia.

“according to a legend first appearing in the Kievan Synopsis (1674),^[2] Moscow (Moskva) was founded by King Mosokh son of Japheth (i.e. Meshech), and was named for him and his wife, Kva. In this legend, they are also said to have had a son, Ya, and daughter, Vuza, who gave their names to the nearby Yauza River“

Or is it possible both are true ? Could some tribes of Meshekh from the Bible have stayed and been the Meskhati of the southern Caucasus and others gone north to be the Moskva of Moscow and north central Russia?There is is some militant Islam in southern Russia for instance the Boston marathon bombers were or at least their parents were from Dagestan but I believe Dzokar and Tamerlan Tzarnaev were radicalized in the US.(Please do not use any information to hate anyone,terrorists are always a tiny tiny percent of any population and the governments not the common person are most often the problem) but it does show that Ezekiel could be dealing with some of these issue’s in southern Russian former or current Russian SSR’s.Russian republic’s like Chechnya and Dagestan could be important in the end times for sure.

Who is or was Tuval/Tubal?

The best evidence is that Tubal is associated with Tabal which may have been a kingdom in Anatolia post Hittite collapse but begs the question who was Tabal before the Hittites?And also Josephus says that Tubal was from around Georgia so again back to the Caucasus.

“38:15; Eze 39:2). Josephus (Ant. 1, 6, 1) identifies the descendants of Tubal with the Iberians, that is-not, as Jerome would understand it, Spaniards, but-the inhabitants of a tract of country between the Caspian and Euxine seas, which nearly corresponded to the modern Georgia.”

What can be concluded without much doubt that Ezekiel 38 is talking about Russia and particular the Caucasus region.I believe that in some of this talk there is prediction of the Nagorno-Karabakh region which is a part of Azerbaijan with a high Armenian population but almost all Armenians have left because of fighting in the region.

“On 19 September 2023, Azerbaijan launched a military offensive on Nagorno-Karabakh.^{[14][15][16][17][18]} One day after the offensive started, on 20 September, an agreement on establishing a complete cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh was reached at the mediation of the Russian peacekeeping command in Nagorno-Karabakh” Wikipedia

Now most of the Armenians are gone and so it’s clear war and strife in the Caucasus region was predicted in the Bible.But who is the modern ancestor’s of Tubal we can’t know other than it’s likely again the southern Caucasus region.Onto the next!

 ³ “and say, thus says Adonai Elohim(Lord God): ‘Behold, I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. ⁴ I will turn you about and put hooks into your jaws. I will bring you out, with all your army, horses and horsemen—all of them splendidly dressed—a vast assembly with breastplate and shield, all of them wielding swords”.(Tree of Life)

So verse 3 rephrases verse 2 and verse 4 describes a horrible battle a battle yet not seen and from what has been decided before looks like some type of confederation or loose confederation of Russia,some Caucasus and central Asian countries including Iran.So Rabbi Eliyahu ben Sh’lomo Zalman (AKA The Vilna Goan) said this about the war of Magog:

The Vilna Gaon (quoted by Dayan Abramsky) famously said: “the war of Gog and Magog will last 12 minutes. A third of the world will die, a third will suffer from plague and a third will survive.”

Although it is purely conjecture, many believe that Nuclear Warfare is the likely interpretation of the Gaon’s ‘prophecy’

“The war of Gog and Magog” and why I have talked about Gog,Magog is a nation or confederation of nations and Gog is a leader of Magog and not a nation.We don’t know Gog’s indentity although it would be all to easy to say Putin but we don’t know for sure and the Bible leaves no bread crumbs on Gog’s indentity.

Here is verse 5″:

 ⁵ With them will be Persia, Cush and Put, all of them with shield and helmet”

This indentifies Iran,Either(Somalia,Sudan or Ethiopia ,in some cases Kush could have meant Yemen even) and Put is Libya.

גֹּמֶר וְכָל־אֲגַפֶּ֔יהָ בֵּית תּֽוֹגַרְמָ֔ה יַרְכְּתֵ֥י צָפ֖וֹן verse 6

וְאֶת־כָּל־אֲגַפָּ֑יו עַמִּ֥ים רַבִּ֖ים אִתָּֽךְ:

On verse 6 the Hebrew is super important because a lot of translations get it wrong.

“Gomer and all of it’s wings,the house of Togarmah( that is Armenia),and flank sides of the north and all his wings,and multitudes are with you”

“This is big,Gomer is usually understood as Celts or western Europe ,remember at one time all of Europe even as south as Serbia and Turkey and east to Poland and parts of Ukraine were Celtic.We think of Celtic as Ireland,Scotland and Wales but those are just the ones who never assimilated with Romans or Germanic’s.The next thing and why I quoted Hebrew is the “This is big,Gomer is usually understood as Celts or western Europe ,remember at one time all of Europe even as south as Serbia and Turkey and east to Poland and parts of Ukraine were Celtic.We think of Celtic as Ireland,Scotland and Wales but those are just the ones who never assimilated with Romans or Germanic’s.The next thing and why I quoted Hebrew is the word used twice in different forms “agafe’ah” meaning “wings” I take that as airplanes and airplanes coming from the north and likely western Europe.This verse 6 is saying multitudes will come from the “flanks” or far regions of the north including Armenia with a great air assault.Does this mean all of northern Europe is atacking ,we don’t know for if that is true but we know a good bit of western Europe by the use of Gomer.We know Togarmah is likely Armenia and it uses the word “yarkhtei” meaning flank or far region,so something is coming from outer parts of the north,which could mean northern Europe,Siberia or even North Korea.When it says the flank sides of the north that could very well be are fun friends at the “Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea”(North Korea).That covers the possible nations with the merchants of Tarnish being spoken of later,the merchants of Tarnish are sometimes thought to be the English.Possibly for trading tin with the middle east at a period in history.Ok so let us move on.

⁷ “‘Be prepared, prepare yourself, you and all your company gathered around you. Be a guard for them. ⁸ After many days you will be summoned. In the latter years, you will come against the land that has been brought back from the sword and regathered from many peoples on the mountains of Israel, which had been a continual waste. But they were brought out from the peoples. When all of them are dwelling securely, ⁹ you will come up, you will come like a storm, you will be like a cloud covering the land—you and all your wings and many peoples with you.’”(Tree of Life version)

It sounds like from the language in 7-9 that it is clear that the confederation of Magog led by Gog(person/persons unknown) comes after the 1948 modern state of Israel “they were brought out from the peoples(nations)when all are dwelling securely”. So this confederation is post modern era post WW2 and WW1 and concerns an attack against present day Israel.Let me make it clear I am not saying the current war in Israel is the begining of the war of Magog(it’s possible it could be) I am not saying it is though .I do think it could anger the Islamic world enough for in a few years down the line to maybe trigger Magog possibly I am not engaging in end time prediction just giving insight into how accurate the Bible can be on current events.Like talk of Meshekh and Togarmah could be a reference to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.And I do think the “flank of the north ” could be North Korea not that, that means Russia is not mentioned ,no question Magog is a confederation between Russia and Iran.I do think the chess pieces are in place for Magog I don’t think there has been an opening yet but this chapter still reveals much insight on current events.

¹⁰ Thus says Adonai Elohim: “It will come to pass in that day that things will come into your heart and you will devise an evil plan. ¹¹ You will say, ‘I will go up against the land of unwalled villages. I will fall upon the quiet people who live securely, all of them living without walls, having no bars or gates, ¹² in order to seize spoil and carry off plunder, to turn your hand against the waste places now inhabited and against the people gathered from the nations, who have been acquiring livestock and property, who live in the center of the world.’

¹³ “Sheba, Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish with all its young lions will say to you: ‘Have you come to seize spoil? Have you assembled your company to plunder? To carry away silver and gold, to take away livestock and property, to make off with immense spoils?(Tree of Life version)

Here it is saying that Magog will attack a defenseless people and carry away rich spoils of war.This is happening now but could also happen on a larger scale later.That is the mystical aspect of scripture is to have two meanings that are both right and true.Dedan is in modern day Saudi Arabia and Sh’va or Sheba is Yemen although some say it is Ethiopia but Yemen and Ethiopia were at times one nation especially before the great Islamic conquests.The spelling of Sheba(Sh’va) in the Bible is consistent with Yemen,the African spelled Saba.So verse 13 likely speaks of the Saudi’s and Yemen.In verse 13 it sounds from the language that Saudi Arabia and Yemen might side with Israel and also maybe England too because the merchants of Tarnish are often associated with Britain.So this will end part I and off to part II.
