Is Psalm 83 happening now?

Just to let you know the verse numbers are different in the Hebrew text than in the King James or ESV or most English translations,so do not be confused.In the original Bible actually there was not chapter or verse,I think the RCC put them in in the 4th century,so don’t worry if it may be different here and there.So lets get started with verse 3 because the first to are just introductions.

Psalm 83:3 or 2 in other translations

כִּי־הִנֵּ֣ה אֽ֖וֹיְבֶיךָ יֶֽהֱמָי֑וּן וּ֜מְשַׂנְאֶ֗יךָ נָ֣שְׂאוּ רֹֽאשׁ:

“Behold because your enemies are making trouble and those who hate you have raised their heads”.

I think we can agree that this is happening.

Here is verses 4-6 in the Tree of Life Version

“They make a shrewd plot against Your people,
conspiring against Your treasured ones.
⁵ “Come,” they say, “let’s wipe them out as a nation!
Let Israel’s name be remembered no more!”
⁶ For with one mind they plot together.
Against You do they make a covenant.”

I think without citing a exact article we know Iran has said Israel should be wiped off the map ,because they said it so many times.

The rest of Psalm 83 we will dissect very carefully.

Here is verse 7 in my translation

אָֽהֳלֵ֣י אֱ֖דוֹם וְיִשְׁמְעֵאלִ֑ים מוֹאָ֥ב וְהַגְרִֽים:

The tents of Edom and the Yishmaelites,Moab and the Hagrites(descendents of Hagar)

What are the tents of Edom? The Edomites were the descendents of Esav ,Jacobs brother and the Kingdom of Edom (known by Rome as Idumea) was in southern Jordan.Some have said the children of Edom were seen as Jews by Rome and intermingled with Jews and may be part of moden Gaza.Some people have said the “tents of Edom” are the slum settlements in the Gaza strip.Many of these speculations may or may not be true but for sure Edom was associated with Jordan and an enemy of Israel going back to ancient times.A reason being that Esav sold his blessing for red soup (Edom means red) and resentment became between Jacob and Esav and this tension exists today.We know the for sure Edomites are in the Levant transJordan area and not in Arabia or Egypt or east in Iraq or Syria.The Edomites are in or near Israel and many in modern Jordan.In mystical terms Edom has become both in Judaism and Christianity as a metaphor or even a literal for the enemies of God’s followers.Moab also is Jordan but a bit further north.

Who are the children of Yishmael( I have a whole article on that actually)and this gets complex and there was definite inter mixing with Edom ,how much is not quite known.The Nabataeans and Kederites are the most well known of the tribes of Yishmael and these again are likely Jordan and Syria and may have co-mingled with Edom as well.The overall children of Yishmael can be anything from Jordan and Syria and even Gaza to as far south as Saudi Arabia or Yemen or Oman or the UAE.No one knows exactly for sure ,some have said Arabians were the descendents of Keturah Abrahams third wife.

Verse 8

גְּבָ֣ל וְ֖עַמּוֹן וַֽעֲמָלֵ֑ק פְּ֜לֶ֗שֶׁת עִם־יֹ֥שְׁבֵי צֽוֹר:

“Geval and Ammon and Amalek,P’leshet (The Philistines) and the peoples dwelling in Tzor (that is Tyre)

We can can quickly agree Ammon is Jordan and Tyre is Lebanon (maybe Hezbollah).

Amalek was a Grandson of Esav and part of Edom another ancient enemy of God’s people and also likely in southern Jordan.

Geval or Gebal was a seaport in ancient Phoenicia which may have connections to the Lebanon and Hezbollah.

Here is verse 9

” even Assyria has joined them,
becoming a strong arm for Lot’s sons. Selah” (Selah means forever I think)

Lot’s son’s again are Jordan (Amman is the capital) and of course Assiria will join in.The Assyian Empire was substantial but northern Iraq is a big part of it but the Assyrian diaspora is also substantial.At this point it it established that all parties mentioned are currently going against Israel.

I am not trying to be racist or say all these groups of people are bad or evil but just to show that these nations are opposing Israel and hate Israel.That is not to say that all Arab individuals are not good or that Christians and Jews can not be evil,not what is being said but this Psalm does say much about world events today and shows the prophetic magic of the Holy Bible.The rest of Psalm 83 appears to be the Lord God giving Israel permission to fight back.

¹⁰ Do to them as You did to Midian,
to Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River,
¹¹ who perished at En-dor—
they became as dung for the ground.
¹² Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb—
all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
¹³ who said,
“Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God.”
¹⁴ My God, make them like tumbleweed,
like chaff before the wind.
¹⁵ As a fire burns a forest,
    and as a flame sets mountains ablaze,
¹⁶ so pursue them with Your tempest,
    and terrify them with Your storm.
¹⁷ Cover their faces with shame,
so they may seek Your Name—Adonai.
¹⁸ Let them be ashamed and dismayed forever.
Let them be humiliated and perish.
¹⁹ Let them know that You alone
—whose Name is Adonai—(the Lord)
are El Elyon over all the earth.(God most high)

These closing verses of Psalm 83 addresses the world denying Israel’s right to it’s self defense,and affirmatively gives Israel it’s right to self defense.This is very prophetic ,God directly addresing modern events in scripture!
