Was 666 of Revelation about Nero ?

In short no and to the preterist is is not a popular viewpoint.You may ask what is a preterist,a preterist is a person who believes all Biblical prophecy has already occured.it is common in Catholicism and some liberal protestants groups.So the notion that 666, the number of the beast of the book of Revelations was about Nero Caesar is standard in their viewpoint.As my readers know this blog is very much about prophecy to come.

How did Nero Caesar come to 666 in gematria a system of matching Hebrew numbers and words and most often proper names.This however is not based Nero Caesar but Neron Kaesar using this Hebrew spelling נרונ קסר

The nun’s are 50 each ,the 2 reish’s 200,the kuf 100 the samakh 60 and the vav 6 hence, six hundred and sixty six ,so there you have it 666 ,Neron Kaesar.

Problem 1.Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus ,that is Nero’s actual full name

2.It is very subjective to use Neron and no simply Nero ,Neron as a name makes some sense and Nero would mean in Hebrew “his lantern” the Hebrew word ner means candle or light and it is the root od the word menorah.And the cholom o vowel would mean his hence nero ,his light.However Nero was his real Latin name and the Nero spelling would be 616 not 666.

3.Most often Jewish mystics do not consider it appropriate to use gematria on non native words to Hebrew or maybe Aramaic.

4.In very ancient Hebrew there was not spacing between words and so to make the ends of phrases more recognizable certain Hebrew letters took a different form when they end words.These are sofit (means ending) identity letters and nun sofit is such a letter.That is regular nun נ with a value of 50 which makes up the 666 number combo.The name Neron which is what this is based upon when nun ends a word it is nun sofit ן which has the value of 700 not 50.If spelled that way ,Neron Kaesar would equal 1316 not 666.

It is true that the sofit ending is often droped in words not native to Hebrew Like Donald Trump.The last letter in Trump is simply the letter Pei in normal form and not fei sofit.However no Hebrew word ever ends in a P sound they all end with fei sofit.If they were writting Bill Clinton they would use nun sofit.Also Neron is Hebraicized ,hence it would follow Hebrew rules and would use the sofit form (the final form).Trump is left as is so the rule does not apply.

These are the reasons why I doubt the 666 of Revelations is about Nero
