What we will examine is if Jesus is the Mashiach which I believe he is then why is his identity not screamed from the rooftop in the Old Testament or Tanakh.I hope our Orthodox Jewish readers will especially take notice of this article.

Let us examine some Messianic prophecy in the Old Testament which we will call to be simple the OT.Lets start with the most obvious Isaiah 53.5

Isaiah 53:5New International Version

⁵ But he was pierced for our transgressions,
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
    and by his wounds we are healed.

The question is then why does it not say Messiah ,why is Mashiach not in the Hebrew especially when this is the clearest reference to Jesus(I do believe this is about Jesus) I will explain why toward the end of the article.

Isaiah 7.14

לָ֠כֵן יִתֵּ֨ן אֲדֹנָ֥י ה֛וּא לָכֶ֖ם א֑וֹת הִנֵּ֣ה הָֽעַלְמָ֗ה הָרָה֙ וְיֹלֶ֣דֶת בֵּ֔ן וְקָרָ֥את שְׁמ֖וֹ עִמָּ֥נוּ אֵֽל:

Thus the Lord will give to you a sign,behold a young woman is pregnant with a son and his name will be called imanu’el(meaning with God or God with us)

Many English Bibles use the word virgin instead of young woman which the exact Hebrew does say young woman not virgin and many use this to attack the validity of the verse.Here is Mathew 1.23

²³ “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”^[a] (which means “God with us”).

So why is this revealed in the New Testament but not in the OT,we will answer that later.Now does this mean Mathew is being disingenuous ,no I don’t believe so at all and I think the word virgin(betulah in Hebrew as opposed to the text which says “Alma” meaning young woman) was intentionally withheld for an important reason.Next we have Psalm 2.7-12

⁷ I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:

He said to me, “You are my son;
    today I have become your father.
⁸ Ask me,
    and I will make the nations your inheritance,
    the ends of the earth your possession.
⁹ You will break them with a rod of iron^[b];
    you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”

¹⁰ Therefore, you kings, be wise;
    be warned, you rulers of the earth.
¹¹ Serve the Lord with fear
    and celebrate his rule with trembling.
¹² Kiss his son, or he will be angry
    and your way will lead to your destruction,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
    Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

Powerful stuff and it clearly rings a prediction of Jesus no one can doubt with echoes of the book of Revelation to come.But still esoteric ,why is there not a real home run clearly leaving no doubt that the death of Jesus is the true Christ,Messiah or Mashiach.Here is 1 Corinthians 2.6-8 explaining it all.

⁶ We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. ⁷ No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. ⁸ None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

If the indentity of Jesus had been spelled out in the Torah and the prophets then the wicked would never had killed Jesus.If Yehudah Kriot (Judas Ascariot) had known God’s plan for salvation he would never have handed Jesus over.If the leaders of the Sanheidrin had known the plan for salvation and the identity of the Messiah they would never have accused him.If the Romans and Pilate had known too they likely would never have signed the death warrant and then Jesus could not have saved the world with his Holy blood of redemption.So yes Jesus,Yeshua is all over the OT but for those who truly believe but not for the wicked to recognize so the wicked can never use the Bible to their advantage.That why Jesus famously said in Mathew 13.10-11

¹⁰ The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”

¹¹ He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them.

This is so the wicked can never abuse the Bible for selfish or ungodly purposes.
