Shemot: Verse 6
Rabbi Shimon opened the discussion saying: “The word of Hashem was (Heb. hayoh hayah)…” (Yechezkel 1:1). Why is the word hayah repeated twice? We should further ask why Ezekiel revealed all that he saw if he was a faithful prophet. Should one whom the King brought into His sanctuary reveal what he saw? Certainly Ezekiel was a faithful prophet, and all that he saw was by Faith, and whatever he revealed was with the permission of the Holy One, blessed be He, and all was as it should have been.
Here it is discussing our Lords name YHVH (YHWH in very ancient Hebrew)
The text here says its from a double hayah meaning sort surely it was הָיֹה הָיָה and to be honest I am not fully sure although hayah is likely the root and there is another word hovveh הווה that means it is or present tense because hayah is passed tense (it was). Regardless of the truest verbal root (which likely is hayah) it surely means “He who causes existence” its a hifil verb ,a causative verb.
So what do other names of God mean in the Bible
The other most common is Elohim אלהים and plural of Eloah however it is not always plural and many Hebrew words in the masculine plural can add magnification or emphasis. So Elohim can mean a higher power and this word translates simply as God in English Bibles. The Hebrew word Eloah is related to the Arabic Illah where Allah comes from by adding the Arabic definite article al to to Illah you have Al-Illah later shortened to Allah. To root here also is “El” a common Mesopotamian godhead among pagans and El was worshiped by Canaanites also. El also means god or higher power. Elohim can also refer to other divine beings like angels or demons in some contexts but usually is a generic for god whether it be the Biblical God or pagan gods.
Adonai אדוני meaning pragmatically “My Lord” technically possessive plural meaning my Lords but it is never meant that way but to be in the plural for emphasis .This word Adonai is a common substitute for the Tetragrammaton especially in Synagogue readings.
This is from the burning bush scene and English translations often say “I am that I am” but it actually means “I will be who I will be” its a future tense.
El elyon means the God most high.
El Shadai is generally translated as the same in basic meaning but it may have it’s origin in the word shad meaning breast. So hence God as a source or nuturer or God who provides!
Here are a couple names of the Lord not found often in the Bible but are common in Jewish speech to substitute saying God’s name which is strictly forbidden.
Hashem השם which means “The name” by the name a substitute for the four Holy letters YHVH.
HaKadosh Barukh hu הקדוש ברוך הוא which means “the Holy one blessed be he”
So more on Messiah in Chapter 15 verse 99
Shemot: Verse 99
At that time the king, Messiah, will arise to go out of the Garden of Eden from the place called the ‘bird’s nest’ and he will become revealed in the land of Galilee. On the day that (Messiah) goes there, the whole world will tremble and all the people of the world will hide in the caves and CRACKS in the rocks and will not expect to survive. And concerning that time, it is written, “And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and in the caves of the earth, for fear of Hashem, and for the glory of His majesty, when He arises to shake the earth terribly” (Yeshayah 2:19).
Although the hiding in rocks and caves is in both Isaiah (Yeshayahu) 2:19
19 “And they shall come into the caves of the rocks and into the hollows of the earth, because of the fear of the Lord and because of the splendor of His pride, when He rises to break the earth”
And also in Revelation here:
6:15 “Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains”.
The part about about Messiah being from the Galilee is not in Isaiah although Isaiah mentions Bashan which is modern Golan Heights which is close to Galilee but not the same ,Bashan is east of the Jordan river. This is secret again in referring to Yeshua/Jesus because Nazereth in Galilee is to far from Bashan to be the same. Also Isaiah says all from Lebanon and Bashan will be humbled and never says the messiah will be from the Galilee (Isaiah 2:12-13). So I think here it is true that Jesus is revealed and there is no simple coincidence.
Here we have Shmot chapter 17 verse 160
Shemot: Verse 160
He opened the discussion saying: “To the chief musician upon Ayelet Hashachar (‘the morning star’ – lit. ‘the hind of dawn’), a psalm of David” (Tehilim 22:1). ‘The hind of dawn’ when the east lights up and the darkness of night is dispersed, there is one overseer for the east side that draws one thread of light from the south side, until the sun rises, and cracks the windows of the firmament and illuminates the world. And the thread disperses the darkness of the night.
Consider Revelation 22:16
16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star”
Also Rabbi Elazar quotes Psalm 22:1
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me,
so far from my cries of anguish?
Matthew 27:45-46
45 From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. 46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli,[c] lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
I know some people associate the morning star with Satan but the word Lucifer is Latin for bearer of the light and does not have to mean morning star.
Here is the Zohar’s first appearance of the Ra’aya Meheimna or the Faithful shepard רעיא מהימנא which literally refers to Moses in this case.
Vaera: Verse 55
Ra’aya Meheimna (The Faithful Shepherd). “And I will take you to Me for a people, and I will be to you as an Elohim; and you shall know that I am Hashem your Elohim…” (Shemot 6:7). This commandment is the first of all the precepts the very beginning of all the precepts IS to know the Holy One, blessed be He, in the general. What is meant by general? To know that there is a Supernal Ruler, who is the Master of the world, and who created all the worlds, heaven and earth, and all their hosts. This is in general. And everything ends in the particular, to know Him in the details.
John 10:11-15
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.
14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.
Although Jesus calls himself the good shepard the faithful shepard also applies and makes sense. And let me point out the Torah never called Moses the Faithful shepard the Ra’aya M’heimna only the Zohar does so I think the real secret message is Jesus not Moses.
So in parashah Beshalach Chapter 26 verse 332 and we again have the Ra’aya M’heimna or the Faithful Shepherd
Beshalach: Verse 332
Ra’aya Meheimna (the Faithful Shepherd). It is a commandment to build the lower Temple similar to the Temple of above, as it is written, “In the place, Hashem, which You have made for You to dwell in” (Shemot 15:17), because it is necessary to build a Temple below, to say a prayer in it every day, and to serve the Holy One, blessed be He, because prayer is called ‘service.’
Here is John chapter 2
Jesus Clears the Temple Courts
13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” 17 His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”
18 The Jews then responded to him, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”
19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”
20 They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” 21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body”
Here is Hebrew 7
15 And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, 16 one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. 17 For it is declared:
“You are a priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek.”
18 The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless 19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.
20 And it was not without an oath! Others became priests without any oath, 21 but he became a priest with an oath when God said to him:
“The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind:
‘You are a priest forever.’”[b]
22 Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant.
Here in Yitro is something brief on the Zeir Anpin because this is its first appearance in the Aramaic.
Yitro: Verse 448
Rabbi Aba explained that in order that blessings may spread to the supernal days – which receive their blessing from that day. On this day the head of Zeir Anpin is filled with the dew, which descends from the most hidden Atika Kadisha (the Holy Ancient One). He causes it to descend into the field of holy apple trees, three times after the entrance of the Shabbat, in order that all may enjoy the blessing.
A bit over esoteric but I wanted the Zeir Anpin in the Aramaic
Here in parashah Mishpatim 9 391
Mishpatim: Verse 391
The precept that follows is to redeem the Hebrew servant and the Hebrew maidservant, to marry off the Hebrew maidservant, and to contemplate the method of acquisition of the Hebrew slave, “you shall furnish him liberally” (Devarim 15:14). As the verse reads, “when you acquire a Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve” (Shemot 21:2). What is meant by, “six years he shall serve,” and how is he to be purchased? With the secrets of Torah. The ANGEL Metatron IS the servant of Hashem, incorporating the six ends, with the same number of the six letters, the six orders of the Mishnah. With them one should strive to serve his Master to become His servant. Money represents the right and Abraham, whose level is Chesed, and Torah was given from them.
That Metatron is a servant of the Lord who incorporates the six aspects (that is Zeir Anpin or the lesser countenance ) So once again I am not saying that Jesus is Metatron at all but that Metatron is symbolic of the Son of God in heaven before the incarnation .To show and to illustrate that the notion that the Messiah can’t be divine and co existing with the Father is false and the Messiah will and is divine. So that unlike what what you will be told today, that it was standard in second temple time’s for there to be a second power in heaven and so the Trinity is old not new.
Here is Eliyahu or Elijah talking with the Faithful Shepherd in Mishpatim chapter 17 verse 466.
Mishpatim: Verse 466
Elijah said, Faithful Shepherd, so it is. As a result of your efforts in every precept to unify the Holy One, blessed be He, and His Shechinah with all the hosts above and below, so the Holy One, blessed be He, and His Shechinah and all Her hosts above and below unify with your spirit, with every precept done. As a prince whose parents love and kiss him, they do not rely on their hosts, but choose to guard him themselves.
Here is the Trinity in unity of the Father (Hakadosh Barukh hu) The Son The faithful shepherd (Ra’aya M’heimna) and the Sh’kinah or Holy spirit.
Some Christian Kabbalists have suggested that the attributes in the ten S’firot of Keter, Chochmah and Binah represent the Father, Son and Holy Spirit respectively. First I’d say that Keter would more be the son not the Father because he has the crown and rod of earthly rule at least in the 1000 reign. I’m not quite sure about binah (understanding) and the Holy Spirit. Even though this book (by this book I mean mine not the Zohar) is far more in the Merkavah or Heikalot literature camp than Kabalah anyway.Though if I were to offer an opinion I’d call the Ein Sof (Hebrew for eternity) as the Father, the Zeir Anpin the Son and the Sh’khinah the Holy Spirit and Malkhut the Church. So interestingly the Zohar itself called the Father binah and Malkhut in parashah Shmot ,Trumah 2:8.
Here are a couple things on Geihinom which is a Hebrew word for hell or perdition in parashah Trumah
Trumah: Verse 447
The fire of lower Gehenom comes from the fire of upper Gehenom, and comes to the lower Gehenom to burn with the heat produced by the wicked who warm themselves with the Evil Inclination. And all these chambers are burning there.
Trumah: Verse 448
There is a place in Gehenom in which the levels are called ‘boiling excrement.’ There is the filth of those souls that have become soiled by all the filth of this world, and they become cleansed and rise and the filth remains there. These bad levels that are called ‘boiling excrement’ are appointed over that filth, and the fire of Gehenom dominates over the remaining filth.
Here is Revelation 20:13-15
13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.
Revelation 21:8
8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
Now in parashah ki tisa the Ra’aya M’heimna is back.
Ki Tisa: Verse 6
The Faithful Shepherd opened the discussion with: The following commandment is to sanctify the month. The holy moon, is the bride that becomes hallowed by the Court of Law, which is Gvurah , as therein, are the Levites. For it is said of them, ‘And you shall hallow the Levites.’ And afterwards, when the moon is visible and we can enjoy its light, we bless it, ‘Blessed are You, Hashem our Elohim, King of the Universe, With His utterance He created the heavens, and with the breath of His mouth, all their hosts.’ And with what is it hallowed and blessed? It is with Tiferet (glory), because it is glory to those born by Him from birth. End of Ra’aya Meheimna (the Faithful Shepherd).
Let us examine the Aramaic here כַּלָּה דְּמִתְקַדֶּשֶׁת now in Judeo Aramaic this means sanctified bride however in Hebrew this has a slightly different meaning due them being different languages. In Hebrew this translated as the Bride of Holy blood and of course the blood of the cross is the only Holy blood.I think this refers the the Bride of Christ.Just a word play but people do believe in stuff like that ,like gematria which matches words with numerical value.
Here although not mentioned specifically but is mentioned in opening the firmament of Eden in the Aramaic text and so we will talk about the four worlds in this example of Heikhalot literature.
Vayak’hel: Verse 292
Upon the lower (earthly) Garden of Eden there stands a firmament, in which are contained high mysteries. When the Holy One, blessed be He, made the firmament, He brought fire and water from the Throne of Glory, and put them together to form the lower firmament. They expanded until they reached that place, the Garden of Eden, and settled. What did the Holy One, blessed be He, do? He took from the holy high heaven, other fire and water, that both exist and do not exist, both disclosed and not disclosed. From these fire and water taken from the high heaven, He caused the firmament to expand, and stretched them over the lower Garden of Eden. That firmament, is united with the other firmament.
So the most basic in the world of Asiyah “Action” (עֲשִׂיָּה),this is complete creation where the creations are free to move about and so on.
Yetzirah “Formation” (יְצִירָה) This is primarily an angelic world because the physical creations of the flesh of the dust of earth are to be active.
Beri’ah “Creation” (בְּרִיאָה This is the realm of the divine throne of the Father Son and Holy spirit because unlike yeitzer which means to form or build “bara” where briyah comes from is a creation only God does” ex nihilo” as they say.
Atziluth “Emanation” (אֲצִילוּת): This is the highest of all worlds and is and is purely spiritual and abstract.
Here we are in Pekudei 48:538-539 and 594
Pekudei: Verse 538
At the first gate stands the chief Malkiel, in charge over the notes, emerging from the King’s court that judges the world. This chief supervises over these notes, with two scribes under him, one to the right and one to the left.
Pekudei: Verse 539
This is given the notes to be corrected, before they leave the gate, to be handed to the chieftain of the first chamber. Once they are given to the chieftain of the first chamber, they leave the place, and there is no possibility to return them.
Pekudei: Verse 594
By the fourth chamber, the reign of the Holy One, blessed be He over the earth is made known. It stands guard to keep the ways of the Torah. This chamber is called ‘merit’, and in it are judged all the cases of the world. This is the chamber where are all the merits, debts, punishments, and rewards for those who keep the precepts of the Torah.
Sort of reminds me of Psalm 82 and divine council language.
| 1A song of Asaph. God stands in the congregation of God; in the midst of the judges He will judge. |
| 2How long will you judge unjustly and favor the wicked forever? |
| 3Judge the poor and orphan; justify the humble and the impoverished. |
| 4Release the poor and the needy; save [them] from the hands of [the] wicked. |
| 5They did not know and they do not understand [that] they will walk in darkness; all the foundations of the earth will totter.
Here in Pekudei chapter 52 we have more Merkavah mysticism and visions of the Heikhal or Temple/Palace.
Pekudei: Verse 752
The seventh chamber is the innermost chamber. It is concealed, has no substantial form, and no body at all. Here the secret of all secrets is hidden. It is a secret, a place where all the upper channels, are gathered. Here lies the spirit which comprises all the spirits, a will, which includes every will, to unite all the chambers as one. The spirit of life is in this chamber, so that all will be one correction.
Pekudei: Verse 753
This chamber is called ‘the house of the Holy of Holies’, a place to receive the supernal soul, which is so called so as to awaken in it the World to Come.
Isaiah 6:2-3
2. And the Serafim (burning ones) stood from above him with six wings, six wings to each one, with two to cover his face and with two to cover his feet and with two to fly.
3.And one called to the other and said: Holy Holy Holy is the Lord of armies the whole earth is full of his glory.
(some translations say Lord of hosts but armies is more accurate and the wings in verse 2 that cover the feet may actually cover a more sensitive area because regel רַגְלָ֖ or feet (was slang for genitals in ancient Hebrew)
It is not inconceivable that Angels could have genitalia because they mated with human women in Genesis chapter 6.
Another commonly pointed out point here is that each of the three Holy Holy Holy was for the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.
